What brought you to Tāmaki Health?

I have been with Tāmaki Health for 7 Years. I was attracted to Tāmaki Health because of its strong purpose and the important role it plays in providing accessible healthcare to communities across New Zealand. I was looking for an opportunity where I could use my technology and problem-solving experience in a meaningful environment while continuing to develop professionally.
The scale and variety of Tāmaki Health particularly appealed to me. I could see opportunities to work with different teams, improve systems and contribute to changes that would have a genuine impact on our clinics, staff and patients.

Tell us about your journey so far

My journey at Tāmaki Health has involved continuous learning and growth. My role has expanded from supporting day-to-day technology and data requirements to leading and contributing to wider digital, data, integration and automation initiatives across the organisation.

I have had opportunities to work on projects involving clinic and database integrations, system upgrades, reporting, process automation, artificial intelligence and improvements to the way information moves between our clinical and business systems.

Tāmaki Health’s leadership team is nimble, dynamic and always willing to explore new ideas. This has motivated me to continually develop new skills and put them into practice in meaningful ways. I have also gained a much stronger understanding of primary and urgent care and how technology can support clinicians and operational teams to improve patient health outcomes.

It has been especially rewarding to see some of our initiatives receive sector-wide recognition and awards. This recognition reinforces that our work is not simply about implementing technology - it is about creating solutions that make a deeper and measurable difference to patients and communities.

What do you enjoy most about working here?

What I enjoy most is knowing that the work we do has a real purpose. Even when I am working behind the scenes on systems, data or automation, the ultimate goal is to make things easier for our clinic teams and support better outcomes for patients.

I enjoy working in an environment where people are open to new ideas and prepared to try different approaches. This creates opportunities to learn, innovate and use my Digital and Data skills to address real healthcare challenges.
I also value the variety and, most importantly, the people. I work alongside knowledgeable and committed colleagues who genuinely care about their teams, patients and communities.

Can you share a moment that stands out?

Tāmaki Health’s response during the COVID-19 pandemic is an experience that will always stand out for me. It was an extraordinary time when we all had to step beyond our usual responsibilities and take on different roles to support our patients and the wider community.

I personally had the opportunity to work as a frontline staff member, directly helping patients during a time of considerable uncertainty. This experience gave me an even deeper appreciation of the dedication of our clinical and operational teams and helped me understand firsthand the challenges faced by our patients.

At the same time, I was able to put my Digital and Data skills to work by supporting initiatives such as video consultations, paperless prescriptions and the rapid establishment of pop-up swabbing clinics. These solutions helped our teams continue delivering safe and accessible healthcare while responding to rapidly changing community needs.

I am proud that Tāmaki Health was able to move quickly, adapt and serve the wider community when support was needed most. Knowing that I contributed both on the frontline and through technology made this period especially meaningful to me. It demonstrated how teamwork, innovation and a shared sense of purpose can make a genuine difference to patients and communities.

What does being part of your team mean to you?

Being part of the Tāmaki Health team means working collaboratively and understanding that every role contributes to patient care. Although my work is primarily within Data and Digital, I work closely with clinic managers, clinicians, nursing teams, finance, operations, vendors and other support services.

I value the openness, experience and willingness of people across the organisation to share their knowledge. The best outcomes happen when technology teams listen carefully to clinic teams, understand the real operational challenges and develop solutions together.

Being part of this team also means being ready to respond when our communities need us. The commitment shown across Tāmaki Health during COVID-19 was a powerful example of what we can achieve when we work together with a shared purpose.
