Where dedication meets leadership

Read Natasha’s story to discover how her journey from graduate nurse to nursing leader has shaped a career in clinical excellence, education and empowering others to grow.

Where my journey began

I joined Tamaki Health as a new graduate Registered Nurse. After 6 months of applying for jobs, Tamaki Health gave me an opportunity. This was my first role in health, and I didn’t know what to expect. I wanted a role that would help people and enable me to make a difference in their lives.

How my career has grown

Since joining in 2013, I have worked across most clinics as a Registered Nurse, being mentored along the way by some incredible nurses who alot of are still working today, before being offered the role as Charge Nurse at Local Doctors Mt Roskill in 2019, where I worked for 2 years, leading an amazing team of nurses.

In 2021, I applied for the Regional Clinical Lead role; however, my heart was always in education, and with some gentle nudging, I was able to move into a Clinical Nurse Educator role in 2022.

Fast forward to today, and I am the Professional Development Lead for Nursing and manage a team of Clinical Nurse Educators, while continuing to provide clinical leadership to the Franklin clinics.

What keeps me passionate

I genuinely care about people and want our patients to receive quality health care. During my time on the floor, I enjoyed building meaningful connections with patients and their whanau. I feel very privileged to call myself a nurse.

In the 13 years here, I have seen Tamaki Health grow and shift. We have come so far and have so much further to go. There are always opportunities for career growth.

Moments I’m proud of

2 moments that I will always be very proud of are:

  • Being part of the first Women's leadership group - This programme was set up by Leaders in our organisation for Women who aspired to be leaders.
  • Joining the Nursing Leadership team - A team dedicated to supporting Nurses within our organisation.

Growing together

I am privileged to still be able to work alongside the nurses in both an educational space and as a clinical lead.

In education, I explore ways to support upskilling for our nurses and healthcare technicians to improve the quality of care we provide and create a psychologically safe space for growth and development.

In the clinical lead space, I work alongside my team to enhance their strengths, encourage them to work to their full potential, and foster deeper connections with the nurses.

Why I’d recommend Tāmaki Health

You will never be bored! Tamaki Health offers opportunities for growth. We thrive to provide quality care for the patients that we serve.
